On Friday (7May2010) my little sister invited me to see the St. Philips wearable arts show. I was quite surprised to see the many different designs from the 20 entries. I thoroughly enjoyed myself with the crazy designs and mixtures of food, plastic, glue and fabric.
This dress was made out of pages taken from books. I wondered about how many books she went through to create this! I like this dress because of the construction and how it resembles a wedding dress.
Melissa's headpiece was intriguing. It was high on the head on one side and continued on to wrap around the other side of the face. What I adored was her make-up on the right side of her face. She was the only model (and dancer) with drawings on their face.
My favourite out of these three is the fluffy pink fairy-floss dress in the middle. On the back there is a massive white bow, almost a substitute for wings. It was such a kiddy dress, almost like a fairy.
These two dresses I liked. The pink and white ones was made out of leftover bottles from a big sister's 21st Birthday. I thought it was very sunning because she's recycling, it looks good and I want to wear it! The silver and blue dress on the right was totally in line with her concept; the Moon. I think she got that with the shape mainly.
These girls were just having a lot of fun. The blue dress in the middle was showing the long side of the dress, you see the other, it's a ballerina dress. The pink bookie-lookin gal made hers out of post-it sickers and newspaper. I think it was condtructed by paper-mache inspired methods.
This rope dress was by far my favourite because of the sheer mass of rope and knots throughout the outfit. The circles made from rope dotted around topped everything off beautifully.
This is the school photographer's back. I thought this jacket was fabulous! It's loose, warm and with a belt, can give off the disguise that you've got a jacket with a snappy cape.
Here are just a few of the many pictures that were taken that night (from my humble camera)
