This Friday evening was the opening parade for the Alice Springs Desert Festival 2010! And I am so proud and excited to say that I was a part of the fun! I was helping out the Pinoy group being a warrior for the Ati-Atihan dance and drums! If you wanna look at the shoes check them out at my Shots of Shoes blog!
I left the house wearing all black - black top and pants. Exceedingly boring, so I decided to add my own flare with a Hawaiian necklace and clashing eye make-up color. I used white eyeliner with a light brown eye shadow. I knew my face was going to be painted all different colors - because I was going to be a warrior!
Kathy was our main design woman giving everyone their unique war paint
This was my design. She was one of the dancers and I didn't want her to look very tough, so I used smooth lines and dots on her cheeks for the parade.
Here's Yeperenye, a big caterpillar filled with students playing songs! I was very impressed with this float, moving, creating music and so imaginative! I had a look inside later on and I saw that they fit in a drum kit, a stage where a guitarist could play and room on the side for all the younger drummers to walk along with inside the caterpillar. There was also a drum kit made out of old portable fire extinguishers! How groovy is that?
The 'cage' - all the paint and covering - came apart in 4 pieces to disassemble and pack away nicely. And the stage underneath broke up into three parts and was all mounted on bicycle wheels! It was a very creative and impressive creation from the school students and a great effort from the Desert Festival.
Here's the gang from the Alice Springs Roller Derby! These guys I enjoyed so much because they were having fun and were so vivacious! I was also a little jealous because I don't know how to roller skate at all.
And of course there was style everywhere! Most people were totally relaxed in their clothes or just got off work! But here's Tita Tet and Sharmaine wearing groovy eye-catching clothes! I love the black and white shirt Tita's wearing. Sharmaine has great color coordination and her accessories were big and chunky - the best kind of bling out there!
Love this post! Getting out into the community and spotting fashion everywhere. Keep the blog posts coming!
