Denim Domination

Britt Robertson is living every girl's dream. Or, at least, every girl who ever dreamt of being a star. The petite 19-year-old South Carolina native with flawless skin and sun-streaked blond hair, not only has the look of a on-screen ingĂ©nue but also has the resume—and acting chops—to become the next big thing. Currently charming viewers in CW's drama Life Unexpected, Robertson grounds the critically acclaimed show with her refreshingly down-to-earth character Lux Cassidy, a teenager raised in foster care who tracks down her biological parents. Though the show's premise sounds heavy on paper, Robertson infuses her character with a deft blend of emotional savvy and delightful spirit, a combo that adds up to a truly engaging performance. Such talent deserves recognition, so for our inaugural Celebrity Fashion Editorial we thought Robertson would be the perfect subject to spotlight!

We asked the up-and-coming actress to test-drive some of the season's must-try denim looks, ranging from boudoir-inspired outfits to tough-chic ensembles. Working with stylist Laurie Trott and the Who What Wear team, Robertson relished being able to play dress up in some of the season's key pieces like Rag & Bone's Tailrace Shirt Dress ($325) in Navy, 3.1 Phillip Lim's Classic Bralette with Chiffon Combo ($75) in Nude, Karen Walker Eyewear's Agent Sunglasses ($200), and J Brand 12" Skinny Pencil Fit Jeans ($196) in Phoebe (which she picked up after the shoot!). But the rising star's favorite look involved a Simone by Katie Nehra Denim Ruffle Dress ($375) paired with a Betsey Johnson Petticoat ($198), which, Robertson noted, "would look great at a fancy barbecue or anywhere back home in Greenville." Her choice isn't just adorable, but also very on-trend; with designers like Marc Jacobs showing intimates-as-outerwear on the S/S 10 runways, Robertson proves that she has an eye for what is seasonally fresh.

As for her off-duty fashion choices, Robertson is in the process of building a wardrobe that works for her rapidly changing life. When filming Life Unexpected in Vancouver, she typically reaches for lots of layers and headwear of any kind, and admits that this accessory affinity has crossed over to her character's personal style as well. "I love hats," Robertson says. "So it's fun to be able to wear them on-set all the time too." In addition to her chapeau obsession, the actress also adores an afternoon sifting through her favorite vintage stores in Burbank. One such go-to shop is organized by decade, but Robertson tends to focus on a single section, confessing that she is, "always drawn to the well-worn denim pieces on the seventies rack." Happily for all parties, we styled Robertson both her beloved mid-blue hues and a few new denim essentials. We're delighted with the of-the-moment results and hope you are, too!
