Mamie Gummer

The genius director and always-quotable Mike Nichols once said that Meryl Streep,"looked like she swallowed a light bulb." That luminescence seems to be a dominant gene, as Streep's eldest daughter, Mamie Gummer, clearly has a similar glow about her. But personally, we think Gummer's incandescence has more to do with her rapidly rising star. After making waves in 2006's Evening and getting rave reviews for her role as Cecile in Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway, she will next appear in John Carpenter's upcoming horror flick The Ward (alongside former GOTM, Amber Heard). And while this Northwestern graduate is certainly making a scene on the screen and stage, she's also made quite an impact on the Who What Wear editors, as well. Pretty party frocks, clean lines, and feminine prints are the styles of choice for this year's first Girl of the Month and we couldn't be more thrilled to shine a light on an actress who is making a name of her own!

This classic beauty—whose retail therapy includes stops at Opening Ceremony and Steven Alan, and who would love to have a closet full of Isabel Marant and Rachel Comey—certainly knows how to look posh and polished for an evening on the town. Spotted in New York at the Fashion Group International Night of the Stars awards in October, Gummer wore Isaac Mizrahi's Cicada Strapless dress and white coat, which was perfect for the Indian summer. Though her exact pieces are no longer available, we recommend you check out Yu's Short Green Dress ($250) or Rory Beca's Strapless Mini Dress ($310) for currently in-stock options. Gummer also picked a solid, albeit more vibrant, colored frock for the Lucille Lortel Awards last May (where she was nominated for her stage performance in Mr. Marmalade). Her Zac Posen Fuschia Silk Cowl Dress is lovely for a cocktail event, and we highly recommend you check out Topshop's Twist Hem Dress ($100) for a look-a-like alternative. Just slip into a pair of chic lace-up heels like Topshop's Geranium Cut Out High Shoe ($125); her Opening Ceremony soles are chic, but we think these are a great substitute for the genuine article!

Gummer is also prone to picking darling printed pieces for festive evenings on the town. Seen at the soiree for Chekhov's Uncle Vanya (starring another former GOTM Zoe Kazan), the Taking Woodstock-star donned a floral-patterned cinched dress from Opening Ceremony. We really fell for the pale palette of this liberty-like number, and sleuthed out this Cami Dress ($187) by Parker, which mimics the muted shades of her piece. Finally, our stylish Miss January wore a tiered Peter Som frock for the CFDA Fashion Awards at Lincoln Center last June. The beautiful draping of the abstract-printed dress and contrasting tied belt were certainly show-stoppers; try Juicy Couture's Heart-Print Dress ($280) if you are a fan of the look. Just make sure to layer on luxurious bangles like House of Harlow 1960's Metal & Leather Wrap Bracelet ($150)! On the whole, if these four looks are any indication of good things to come, we cannot wait to see Ms. Gummer's fashionable ascent!
